Reflection

Wow, is this really the last exercise?
There's probably a couple of mine that need tweaking, but I'm amazed that I was able to do what I did.
My favorite exercise was probaby #13. I still have de.licio.us on my home computer menu and will probably not only keep it, but add to it. And of course everyone likes YouTube for their funny videos, but there is a lot of educational stuff there also.
It's important to keep up with technology no matter your age. Even if you don't know all the how-to's, you need to know what's available out there. There are a ton of useful things for a library and its communication with its patrons.
Do differently?: don't know, there was an enormous amount of work that went into this program and all those associated with it are to be commended. Keep up the good work on keeping us informed.

Netlibrary

Niceville patrons have access to netlibrary, which is good for research. If I'm not mistaken, there are a lot of non-fiction books on it. We don't own any e-books, nor do any of the other libraries in our Cooperative. But some day-----------
Project Gutenberg is great. One could spend hours "browsing the stacks".
My children download music and books and I now have access to a program that will allow me
to download tv shows to watch. But do I want to do that on my small computer screen?
And I can download music to my computer - yea Grandma!!!!!
Pretty amazing stuff going on in the technology world.

podcasts

Again, I like news, so I would probably subscribe to a news feed.
However, book review feeds, audiovisual feeds and general news going
on in libraries would be interesting and useful on the library webpage.

You tube

You Tube is something that can be very entertaining; but also very personal.
Making videos for everyone to watch world wide doesn't appeal to me. But using it
to show family videos in a secure group is prety awesome.
I also watched a video put out for the Penn State Library showing your way around the
library. There would be several uses to promote various activities in the library.
Well, look at me - I actually got a video over here. Not very clear, but it's there!
Woohoo!!

Web 2.0 Awards

Have set up an account with Newsvine.com, but haven't played with it too much yet.
I like news, so this is of interest to me. It's kind of scary though; as soon as I set up the account, went back to the site and there was Niceville weather on it.
How did they know that with just my e-mail address? Anyhow, will play with it more and edit this later.

Web-based applications

I've created a zooho account and wrote a little on a Google document. However, the site is being contrary and won't let me set the settings to publish to my blog.
Will keep working on that.

PLAN Wiki

Finally managed to add my blog to the "sandbox" Good thing you make these things almost bullet proof or who knows what I might have messed up along the way. Anyhow, I added a couple of things to the mix just to let you know I was there.

Wiki

Wow, Wiki is definitely interesting. I know lots of people go to Wikipedia for information, but working in the library field that is probably the last place I'd look. One could definitley "revise history" there.
However, the idea of doing a "small" wiki with family members scattered around the country or a site with participants having the same interests is interesting and something I would consider.
For family, I like the idea of a firewall; for just a common interest, maybe not.
Absolutely amazing how far technology has come and curious to see what the future computer software is capable of doing.

Library 2.0

Library 2.0 seems to be a way to communicate with your local community about the library and what's happening with programming etc. You could also keep your patrons aware of changes happening in the library world at large.
It would probably be a good thing, but would be extremely time consuming for the staff member responsible for maintaining the site.

Technorati

Technorati appears to allow you to create your own favorite desktop. In fact, all of these different exercises seem to come together to give you your own personal computer sites, all organized while still allowing you to go out and pull in more if needed.

Del.icio.us

Another way to mark favorites. Was easy to do; if I can do it anyone can.
With this list, you can actually make a note so your memory can be jogged to remember why you marked it in the first place. http://del.icio.us/catleee

rollyo

This is definitely interesting. Another way to list favorites is what is seems to be to me.
Maybe I just don't get it!!!!!!!!!!

Library Thing

This is a unique way to keep track of favorite books. It's extremely easy to use and is a good way to share your literary likes with others. The entire information about the book is available.
I don't know if we need quite that many subject headings, but it's instantaneous and that is great. http://www.librarything.com/catalog/lluton

bloglines

Here is the link to my blogline feeds

RSS Feeds

RSS Feeds can be used for quick access to information without a lot of advertising and information you don't need. This is a quick way for concise, accurate information at the library to save time.

Finding Feeds

There are a zillion and one feeds one could attach to their blogline.
Just the few I have will keep me busy for hours.

New technology for libraries

The new technology in libraries today is coming faster than it can be implemented.
Wireless is wonderful if it's operating correctly. In our building some days it works, some
days it doesn't . This is very disconcerting to patrons who are counting on using a quiet corner of the library with their laptop. The alternative is to send them to a noisy fast food restaurant to be able to complete their work. Not in my opinion a viable option!

My creation

My creation, originally uploaded by jeluton.

Imagine my surprise when traveling the highway through the Blue Ridge Mountains and catching this view out the passenger window.
What a peaceful end to a stressful day.

Sunset

Sunset, originally uploaded by jeluton.

A beautiful sunset in shades of red creating a serene atmosphere after a day of clogged highways and tourists at play.

Exercise 3

This is my first blog for a lifelong learning class. Can't imagine having much to say, but who knows.
